training...

Physical training has been planned over the next 6 months to get in shape for the row.

I've never been one to sweat it out in a gym as I find it a bit monotonous, much preferring to get outside in the fresh air. With this in mind, activities have started by increasing the things I already do and introducing a strict rowing regime.

Getting out mountaineering, cragging and walking regularly already means increasing this shouldn't be a problem. For June and July I have planned several trips to Wales and the Lake District with climbing partners, and a few where I plan to go alone, soloing some of the classic ridges and climbs pushing myself very hard for two days at a time!

Pictures and clips to follow (Please see Gallery)!

Cycling is the other activity already in place and a timetable has been drawn up to increase this over the next few months so that I build up to getting out six times a week for at least an hour , increasing this gradually so that the end result is a two hour session.

Living in Cheshire, on the borders of Derbyshire gives me the access to great areas for cycling with the flat Cheshire plains and the cycle ways on one side and the gruelling hills of Derbyshire on the other.

The major activity will be on the rowing machine; this isn't arriving until June 18th. Having never rowed before I started at the beginning of June with some coaching lessons regarding techniques, rhythm and power ready for the delivery. I now plan to row at least some time every day building up muscle memory and technique in row sessions that will last up to three hours at a time by the end of the year.
